THE JUDGING PROCESS
-
This was anonymous from the start to the end.
-
The administration was carried out anonymously for us
-
The list of names was hidden from the readers and the judge until the end of the process.
-
A long list of was drawn from a first reading, and a short-list of 6 was arrived at by consensus.
-
The 6 stories were then sent to our official judge, Jo Derrick.
-
Jo’s verdict came within a few days.
-
On providing us with her judgment, Jo Derrick commented:
''I really enjoyed judging the final six stories in the competition. I chose my top three, because those stories best reflected the theme ‘Our Street’. I found it particularly difficult to choose between the top two stories. Did I go with brilliant characterisation and compelling story-telling or did I go for the story with lots of layers and stunning use of language? I opted for the former. It also had a particularly good twist and message. All six stories on the shortlist managed to recreate a wonderful sense of community spirit and gave this reader food for thought. Well done, everyone!''
